Synthesis of N-isopropyl acrylamide copolymerized acrylic acid caped with Dibenzo-18-crown-6 composite for selective separation of Co-60 radioisotope from radioactive liquid waste containing Cs-137

Abstract A new selective polymeric composite capped with crown ether was successfully synthesized using N -isopropyl acrylamide copolymerized acrylic acid paired Dibenzo-18-crown-6, P(NIPAm-Co-AA-DB 18C-6), by Gamma irradiation and ultrasonic homogenizer polymerization. Scanner electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), dynamic light scattering were used to characterize the selected composite's chemical physical constitution. SEM shows a rough irregular surface, FTIR spectra confirmed function groups of 18C-6). Moreover, systematic study monomer concentration investigated enhance performance. The behavior synthetic toward separation Co-60 from Cs-137 in binary system evaluated. Effects pH, contact time, initial ion batch mode maximum capacity reached 108.0 mg/g for 82.0 Cs-137. Regarding calculated parameters, pseudo-second-order Elovich are most describing sorption process, indicating chemisorptions process. Six adsorption isotherms examined, two-parameter (Langmuir, Freundlich) three-parameter (Redlich-Peterson, Khan, Sips, Hills). best-fitted isotherm identified three error methodological approaches: correlation coefficient ( R 2 ), chi-square test χ root-mean-square error. Isotherm fit experimental values following sequence: Khan > Rdlish-Peterson Hills Sips. Finally, an application column conducted, completely separated 0.1 M HNO 3 . These findings indicate promising applications successive radioactive liquid waste containing Egyptian reactors. Graphical abstract
